If the EPUB has no fixed print pagination, the tool starts with an estimated page count and lets you replace it with the page total shown by your own reader.

Progress in context

How the progress estimate works

The Reading tool estimates how long you'll need to finish a book, based on its word count and an average reading speed of about 230 words per minute.

The catalog's median book is around 77,623 words (about 338 minutes of reading), but lengths vary widely. Use the tool to find a book that matches your available time.

Quick Reads

Under 3 hours. 15 books in the catalog fall into this bucket, perfect for an afternoon. Examples include 'George Leatrim — Key Ideas to Explore' at 12305 words.

Steady Reads

3 to 5 hours. 13 books offer a moderate commitment. 'The Caxtons: A Family Picture — Volume 06 — Edition Insights' is about 51 minutes, so it's on the lower end.

Immersive and Marathon

36 books are immersive (5-10 hours), and 29 are marathon (10+ hours). If you want a long journey, consider 'Self-Raised; Or, From the Depths' at 858 minutes.

Reading Tracker Guide

Making Progress Page by Page

Reading Tracker is a simple tool for a specific job: turning a chosen book into a daily plan you can actually follow. It records progress in pages, not minutes or sections, and that focus on pages keeps the process straightforward. You set a current page, a total page count, and a daily page goal, and the tracker shows you how many pages remain and when you might finish.

Set Up Your Page Count

The tracker needs a total page count to work with. If the catalog provides one, it uses that number. If not, it estimates the total by dividing the word count by 250, a standard words-per-page setting. For example, A Terrible Temptation: A Story of To-Day — Background and Themes (id 297) has a word count of 138,478, so the initial estimate would be about 554 pages.

That estimate is a starting point, not a rule. Your own reading app or edition may have a different page count, and the tracker lets you replace the total with the number you see. If you are reading on a device with large font, your page count will be higher; if you are reading a compact paperback, it may be lower. The tool adapts to your reality.

Plan with a Daily Goal

Once your total is set, you choose a daily page goal. The default is 20 pages per day, but you can adjust it to fit your schedule. The tracker then calculates the estimated remaining time using the formula: estimated minutes times remaining pages divided by total pages. It also shows the estimated finish days, which is simply the remaining pages divided by your daily goal, rounded up.

For A Terrible Temptation, if you set a goal of 20 pages per day and the total is 554 pages, the tracker would estimate about 28 days to finish. If you increase the goal to 40 pages, that drops to 14 days. The math is transparent, so you can see how adjusting your daily commitment changes the timeline.

Track Progress Without Friction

Progress history is stored in your browser's localStorage, so you do not need an account. That means your data stays on your device, and you can update your current page as you read. The tracker is not a social tool or a gamification system; it is a quiet companion that reminds you how far you have come and how far you have to go.

This approach works well for long books that might otherwise feel overwhelming. By breaking a 138,478-word novel into daily page goals, you turn a daunting project into a series of manageable steps. The tracker does not judge you for missing a day; it simply recalculates. That is all you need to keep moving.
